The Butterfly Effect (2004)

Der kleine Evan schockt Mom, Kindergärtnerin und Ärzte mit makaberen Zeichnungen und unerklärlichen Blackouts. Was sich eigentlich während Evans Filmrissen abspielt, wird von seinen Freunden totgeschwiegen. Als der Junge auf Anraten der Psychologen Tagebuch zu schreiben beginnt, bleiben die Ohnmachten plötzlich aus.

Zehn Jahre später: Evan ist mittlerweile Student. Einzig ein paar Fetzen einer nicht greifbaren, aber unheimlichen Vergangenheit blitzen manchmal in seiner Erinnerung auf. Da fallen dem Collegeboy die vergessenen Jugend-Tagebücher in die Hände. Neugierig beginnt er zu blättern und landet kaum ein Augenblinzeln später in einem seiner toten Erinnerungsstränge: Ein einziger Albtraum!

Zurück in der Zukunft begreift Evan, dass die Bücher wie eine Zeitmaschine funktionieren.

Mit diabolischem Vergnügen und Gespür für drastische Effekte schicken Bress und Gruber (Skript FINAL DESTINATION 2) fortan Demi Moore-Lover Ashton Kutcher auf immer verzwicktere Zeitreisen; schleudern ihn immer tiefer in die Auswirkungen der Chaostheorie...

Das Spielen mit dem "Knacks in der Realität" und der düstere Grundtenor der Story lassen DONNIE DARKO-Nostalgie erwachen. Passend hierzu auch Eric Stoltz als Kinderschänder - überzeugend ekelhaft wie sein Vorgänger Patrick Swayze.

BUTTERFLY EFFECT ist aber vor allem spannendes, unterhaltsames Kino, das von Null auf Platz Eins in den amerikanischen Kinocharts landen konnte.
